Two Messages

This update was published yesterday on carepages.com From Joye
Wow Rhonda,
Thank you for the very nice idea of the travel fund. I would have never thought of that. The kids have been really taking care of business for me while I've been wrapped up in Doran's daily progress. I am so thankful for my kids and supportive families. Anyone who is in a hospital room day after day can tell you it takes every once of energy you have to face the experience. I cry at least once a day for people who go through this alone or indigent. I am very sensitive to suffering right now. I am praying for so many people sometimes I forget Doran.
I am not in a living hell. Living hell is a refugee camp in Pakistan, or a German consentration camp.. I am aware that I have food, although I'm not hungry, and beautiful home, I find peace in each night. I am wanting to lay in a chair by Doran and never leave. My kids and friends are reminded me that is not in the definition of "talking care of myself". So I have to stay well so I can take care of him when he needs me to be there.
Yesterday was a hard day. The hospital and I need to have a "conversation" about Doran's next move. I am not in denial, I know Doran does not want to live forever on life support. I am NOT going to borrow trouble but live each day as if he will recover. It's the only way to do this journey until God reveals it otherwise.
Good news. We are sure he responded to Angie's request to stick out his tongue 3 different times today!!! It was a joyous morning. Then they packed him up in an ambulence car to Saint Anthonys Central for another CatScan.

LOVE YOU ALL, KEEP PRAYING PLEASE. JOYE

Hi,

Yes, yesterday was a great day. A few days ago the neurologists took him off a stimulant that in some people actually causes drowsiness (counter-intuitive), but Dad seems to be more alert since they lowered that dose. There were as mentioned above 3 tongue stick outs, which is more than we have seen, and his eyes followed the OT's finger tip while it was moving back and forth. They said it was definite tracking and that means that he can SEE! He has always had bad eyes, but up till now we had no real indication that he could see. He would look in our direction and sometimes it felt like he looked into our eyes, but now we know for sure his brain is processing at least some vision. YES!

As I write this I am looking at him and seeing him swallow, after most swallows he moves his jaw up and down several times, then his mouth closes for a short while, and slowly opens again. A few moments ago we put this thing that looks like a skinny, tall plastic drinking cup in his hand for him to change hand positions, but he moved his arm more toward the center of his body, so he must like that position better.

It is hard to see his legs. He has had biker legs for as long as I can remember, but now they look like old man legs because of the atrophy in them. He can work on them when he starts doing more strenuous therapy, but for now it is different.

We will post again if we hear any significant news from the CT Scan.

Thanks for the update--love anything and everything you can get us....Jon-any chance of uploading dad's song to this page before going home? But maybe tell people you are adding music so it doesn't get anyone at work in trouble :)

I am so grateful for the daily updates and really love opening the web site and seeing Doran's smiling face. Joye, you and your family are the very model of Christian family love and faith. You are all in my prayers daily. God bless, Larry Hitt
