Day 31 - Look how far we have come.

Good evening everyone!

Today was another day. When we arrived at the hospital this morning Doran was looking so peaceful and seemed tired. He would open his eyes, but he just seemed tired to me. His IV is removed though. YAY! After meeting with Dr. Fisher, the infectious disease doctor, he decided that he doesn't need to be on antibiotics anymore. The only concern would be if the compound fracture in his leg was infected. As of now that doesn't seem to be the case, but if it was infected then they would just start the antibiotics agian.
We sang a few hymns, and primary songs to him before we left this afternoon, and he seemed to enjoy it. I felt like he mouthed something after we were done. That is not the first time we felt he was mouthing something to us, so we honestly, truely, really believe he can hear and understand us. Yesterday mom asked him to stick his tongue out and after about 10 seconds he did! I think it is very difficult for him to respond to commands, but he can.

To think of the millions and millions of neurons that connect and pulse with energy is quite amazing! According to my anatomy professor, when you learn something new that is two neurons makeing a new connection. Think of ALL the things that your brain has learned since it began as a embryo. Go ahead think of everything your brain has learned. All of those connections. Not just facts, and classes from school, but EVERYTHING you know, do, think, feel, is something that the brain has learned or is learning.

Yesterday, my mom learned yet another lesson in patience. While pulling into a tight parking space she scraped the side of her door on this piece of metal sticking into the parking space. She was in too much of a hurry to go see Dad for the morning. Oh well. We are laughing about it now. It is interesting to see what matters and what doesn't matter.

Also tomorrow is my mom's birthday, so we are going to go out to eat (if she feels like it/will let us).

Just a reminder for visitors: High stim times are from 9-10am, 12-2pm, 4-6pm and 8-9pm.
The hospital is on 1920 High St. in Denver. When you come please sign in at the front desk on the first floor. He is in room 401. We don't expect having tons of visitors at this time, but if there are a lot of people in the room please just let us know that you are there, and we will make sure you can see him. While people are there we don't want a lot of different conversations going on at the same time that can confuse him.
