Nothing has changed, but we are still waiting, but I have had some people tell me that the medical carepages are hard to understand, so I will post on here the basic of the she is blogging so those who don't know, or want, to go to teh carepages can just go here.

Joye is not going to be spending as much time at the hospital, so please call her at home before going over to the hospital.

My Mom has requested that any prayers given on behalf of Dad, start with gratitude for the blessings and miracles that have taken place thus far.

Also I will update the information we have learned is not correct. The information we receive everyday is a little more correct. The things posted in Green are the things I have added or changed later.

So here is what has been posted...

Today is a new day and brings us new information on Doran's status:
For those of you in this email who haven't heard the news, yesterday, Monday June 15, Doran was riding his bicycle as he does most days and as he was crossing a major intersection when an oncoming vehicle hit him. The vehicle was going between 35- 45 mph. He was thrown about 20 feet and rolled for about 80 feet---he was about 100 feet from his bike. The driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911 and was kind enough to stay with Doran until the Paramedics arrived.He was taken to Littleton Adventist Hospital (within 2 miles) where the Trauma Team were waiting for his arrival. Doran was awake, knew his name and spoke to the Team. They also said that he had conherant conversations before going under. After putting him through a full body Scan they discovered his spleen was lacerated and he was bleeding internally. They sutured his spleen and stopped the bleeding immediately. Monday night, the doctors were very concerned about his status. Apparently they DID NOT medically induce his coma. They gave him a 'paralytic' to keep his body paralyzed during transport so as not to cause any more damage. Then he went in to surgery and was given anesthesia sedation, but he has not woken up on his own at this time. The doctors expected him to wake up by now.

Injuries:
Brain Bleed: Diffuse Axonal Bleed (small vessels over entire brain were bleeding.)
Non surgical; body will eventually absorb the blood. They are doing serial catscans of his brain to monitor the bleeding. At this point he is NOT actively bleeding. (Good sign!)
Fractured Spleen: Major loss of blood requiring many units of blood. Also losing blood from broken bones.
Fractured Sternum: Causing respiratory problems, and he is ventilated to assist his breathing. Blood in between lung and chest wall: Chest tube placed to drain fluid and enable right lung to function properly
Bruised Heart: Cardiology performed a heart catheterization which showed no issues.
Insult to Kidney : Upon arrival he had blood in his urine, but at this point the urine is clear and his renal blood values are stable.
Fractured Right Radius and Ulna: Clean break; stabilized with a splint. Surgery to follow when he's more stable.
Fractured Right Tibia/Fibula: Clean fracture. He has an external fixator in place to stabilize the bones. Surgery to follow when he's more stable.
Head Laceration: Sutured in the ER; from fleshy area above left eye, through eyebrow and across left forehead. Joye asked the surgeon how many stitches he put in, the doctor answered, "As many as it took to close the wound. I didn't count."
There are several reasons why he's not waking up yet, but they are not able to tell at this time. He has several teams working and studying his case 24/7. Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, General Medicine, Hematology, Trauma.

Biggest questions right now: Decreased level of consciousness; not waking up from coma, Why?Not oxygenating well in spite of being ventilated, Why? On the bright side: Doran is a strong athlete which will benefit him in his recovery. All of his blood levels are stable. He was alert and oriented upon arrival to the ER. All of his injuries are stabilized.His spine is stable! He has ALL of US praying for him and he's a WHITAKER! We come from good stock! He's under excellent medical care.

Also his mind is very strong too--as much as he works on his body he also works on his mind. He loves mind games. SO just as his body is in peak condition for this challenge, his mind is also up for this.
